CALS Training Models: Challenges And Opportunities
David Lizotte, MPAS, PA-C;
APACVS, Festus, MO, USA

BACKGROUND: Cardiac Arrest is an infrequent event after cardiac surgery that requires a unique approach to management and team based practice
METHODS: A review of centers currently established as formal training centers for this protocol was undertaken.
RESULTS: Centers report increased comfort on the part of the team with management of arrests. Centers report statistical reduction of failure to rescue as well as arrest rates.
CONCLUSIONS: Utilizing a protocol designed specifically for cardiac surgery patients when they arrest, in combination with a formal training course, significantly impacts actual and perceived team performance as well as failure to rescue.
